Fethiye

The Gulf of Fethiye is a region of southwest Turkey with a beautiful coastline and
dramatic wooded mountain ranges, offshore islands and charming villages,
glorious beaches and interesting archaeological sites. In Fethiye central
there is an outstanding and busy marina.
Just 10 minutes from Fethiye
central the bay forms the dreamlike Belcegiz - Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon) known as "a paradise that God
granted to Earth", a very fine place with almost 2 miles of natural
beach and crystal blue waters in enchanting surroundings.
There is a lot of history in
Fethiye and the ancient name of the city is Telmessos.
You will see a fortress on the hill overlooking the city which was built by
the Knights of Rhodes . Fethiye is famously known
for its rock tombs carved into the faces of the cliffs by the Lycians. These are elaborately carved and one is
especially remarkable; it is the tomb of Amnytas dating from the 4th century BC built in Doric architectural style. Other
historical places in the city are the Sarcopaghi and the FethiyeTower.
Located just off the Fethiye-MuglaHighway, Fethiye is located 84 miles
southwest of Marmaris and 40 miles east of Dalaman airport by a winding, very
scenic road. The journey currently takes around an hour and fifteen minutes
however this time will be reduced when the new Gocek tunnel is completed in
2006.
